Regular workouts and a lifetime of trailing after her brothers to martial arts classes means she can hold her own. Her fiery red hair is distinctive, although she usually keeps it in a tight intricate braid when on duty, while her pale complexion tells of her upbringing in the Scottish Highlands. She has a few scars, the most noticeable is one on her back just an inch below her right shoulder blade. |

Personality & Traits
| Personality Overview | As the youngest sibling, Caitlyn has always had a determination to prove herself just as strong, brave and capable as her brothers. It is the foundation of the stubbornness and determination which remained steadfast throughout her life although tapered by life experience. Caitlyn is quite content working alone with ideally some music for company. That said, her family is her world although years of undercover assignments has strained some of those relationships. She remains closest with her eldest brother, who also serves in Starfleet and her best friend remains her grandfather who remains her confidant and biggest supporter. Is relaxed and easy to talk to, but is herself quite a private person. |
|
| Ambitions | Exploring and finding some stability in life. | |
| Strengths & Weaknesses | Calm, methodical and able to view a situation in terms of the ‘bigger picture’ undoubtedly serve her well in her career and life in general. It takes a lot to phase her or knock her off of her stride. Some would say her stubborn determination- particularly in her younger days - was both a blessing and a curse, at times making her take unnecessary risks and push too far. Yet it has also let her overcome challenges in her life as she refused to give up. Her preference for working alone can make her somewhat isolated, but when she makes an effort she does find it easy to make friends. Observant, she makes it a point to know what is happening aboard so she can get ahead of potential problems. |
|
| Hobbies & Interests | Enjoys exploring outside, going on long walks on her own with just some music for company. While she will work out at a gym she much prefers fresh air and being surrounded by nature. Has a great singing voice but it is rarely heard outside of the shower - and one year at the Academy talent show after she lost a bet. Her grandfather introduced her to classic detective novels and she is currently working her way through the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. She can speak Gaelic fluently, although unless at home rarely encounters anyone else who can. |
Medical History
| Past Injuries | Spent almost a year on medical leave recovering from multiple injuries following a shuttle crash, requiring months of rehabilitation. Has some small scarring on her right thigh and lower back but those are hidden beneath her uniform and largely faded. Most prominent scar is on her back, just below the right shoulder which occasionally can cause slight impairment in movement. In childhood she suffered a broken arm and concussions on multiple occasions, usually from trying to keep up or outdo her brothers. |

| Personal History | The youngest child of Ewan and Isla MacRae, Caitlyn's was born and raised within the family estate on the Isle of Harris. Steeped in history and tradition, the island had been home to generations of the family dating back to the first recorded settlers. Raising the five children fell on their paternal grandparents- Joanna and Lachlan - following an accident which left Isla requiring around the clock care on the mainland. Shortly after, Ewan left for work as he did every day but did not return. All of this happened before Caitlyn was two years old, with Ewan never featuring in his children’s upbringing from that moment on. As such, her world became her grandparents, her brothers, visits with her mother and the small but tight knit community. To a young girl like Caitlyn, the wild beauty on her doorstep was magical and full of adventure. It fuelled her imagination and she loved nothing more than exploring and learning all of the myths and legends her grandfather loved to talk about. These walks, however, normally led to them rescuing some form of creature - much to her grandmothers disapproval. The matriarch of the family, Joanna MacRae was also from a family with a long history in the small island community. The daughter of the church minister, she had strong religious beliefs and had little patience for unruly behaviour, flights of fancy or rule breaking. Or missing church. Caitlyn frequently did all of these things as she grew up - as determined to be independent and do her own thing as her grandmother was to make Caitlyn conform to her own expectations. Her grandfather rarely had such notions, playing peacemaker until his wife’s passing when Caitlyn was fourteen. During those years, Caitlyn had the fiercest of protectors in the form of her brothers - although they enjoyed tormenting her just as much. She quickly learned to stand up for herself which usually involved having to outthink four boys who were bigger, faster and stronger than her. She wasn’t always successful and those were the times her grandmother would often find that the boys had put her on the top shelf of a storage closet and locked her inside. Despite the sibling rivalries at play, Caitlyn was determined to show she was just as capable as her brothers - be it academics or sports. While this did not always end well it never seemed to make a dent in her confidence. When his health began to deteriorate in later years, adventures in the great outdoors with her grandfather became campfires and stargazing on clear nights. They would talk for hours, and when he told her stories of his youth and his marriage, she found it hard to reconcile the woman he described with the woman she remembered. It is perhaps not surprising, when asked who raised her, the first name on her lips is ‘my grandpa’. Her best friend and biggest champion, who encouraged every one of his grandchildren to do follow their own paths because home would always be there when they needed it. For Caitlyn, when it came time to consider her future as she graduated high school. Perhaps inspired by the stories her grandfather told her as a child or the nights they spent making up wild stories about the stars overhead, her selection was eventually whittled down to one - Starfeet Academy. Her eldest brother had gone through the academy, and was at that time serving as a science officer. Her other brothers had followed more traditional paths, having gone to different universities on the mainland and returning home every chance they could. But she wanted to embrace that sense of adventure and be out there, amongst the stars. With that, her decision was made and she became the second MacRae sibling to be accepted to Starfleet Academy. Even with her brothers warnings and advice ringing in her ears, she was not quite prepared for the first few weeks of cadet life. Yet she eventually found herself a small group of friends and together they supported one another through the many ups and downs of academy life. For Caitlyn, her near perfect recall for written information spared her from many an academic disaster, while her computer skills (something she learned largely from her brother Kyle) caught the eye of an instructor. During her second year, her Spring Break was complicated when she returned to Harris to find her father staying there. What followed was a week of difficult conversations for the MacRae siblings and their father, with little resolution. Caitlyn agreed to try and build some kind of relationship with him, but it remains strained. Upon graduating the Academy, while her classmates were sent out into the galaxy to begin their careers exploring the unknown, Caitlyn was assigned to Starfleet Intelligence. Six additional months of training, assessments and endless phycological assessments followed - all leading up to her first 'official' posting. According the official record, her first assignment was to the USS Melbourne within the Operations division. However, the ship was a staging post for a small team being sent undercover just beyond Federation space. The first assignment was a simple retrieval, with additional support to assess her abilities but ensure they could avoid any major issues. Fortunately the mission was a success and the subsequent assignments given to the team grew more complex and vital, with Caitlyn learning how to adapt to new cultures and identities at the drop of a hat - and learning how to trust her instincts when things inevitable went astray. She excelled in her field, earning a reputation but in the process becoming isolated more and more from family and friends. While she knew the importance of what she did, that was not common knowledge and the danger of reaching out to anyone was too great. Even in moments when she badly wished to hear a friendly voice. In late 2364, a small civilian freighter they had commissioned to take them back to Federation space suffered a catastrophic engine failure. The destruction of the ship damaged the escape pods which all made a class landing on an uninhabited Class K planet. Only Caitlyn and one other person from her team survived, rescued with help arrived from the USS Melbourne. Badly injured, a decision made to transfer Caitlyn to Starfleet Medical for further treatment and rehabilitation. She eventually found herself back in her family home, having to rebuild mentally and physically before she could have any hope of returning back to Starfleet. It was a slow and painstaking process, yet one she overcame with her typical stubborn determination. In early 2366, she was given clearance and returned to active duty; this time resuming her work for Starfleet Intelligence under the command of Admiral Schofield at Starfleet Headquarters. As part of Admiral Schofield's staff, Caitlyn official role was to support with the restructure and rebuilding of the fleet in the wake the devastating losses of Wolf 359. In reality, she had resumed her undercover work which eventually brought her to the USS Thunderbird. |
